Course Description

This course is designed to meet the needs of those working in a healthcare environment, teaching them how to safely move and handle patients. It covers all the requirements of the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005 and Manual Handling General Application Regulations 2007.

Biomechanics of the spine and spinal segments

Prevention of injury

Principles of lifting

T.I.L.E. assessment


Skills Demonstrations & Practice

Class Size & Student Resources

For the theory presentation the maximum is 8 participants per instructor. For the practical skills the maximum is 4 participants per instructor. Each student will be provided with comprehensive course notes.

Course Duration

1 Day - 8 hours. Course duration can vary depending on the numbers of participants to be trained and on the number of lifting techniques that need to be covered. Some techniques may not be relevant to certain workplaces. Please contact us to discuss your training needs prior to booking.

Currently Work Wise offers this course as an in-house training course conducted at the business premises of the client only.


Following successful completion of the course and examinations, participants will be awarded a Work Wise Manual Handling & Moving People Certificate. This certificate is valid for 3 years from the date of issue.
